Today, it is common to add the words ‘organic cotton’ to a clothing label even when the majority of the manufacturing process is still jam packed full of harmful chemicals. Not the type of 'Organic' we all imagine when we see the label.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) provides you with complete reassurance that your product is truly organic.
It’s really the core standard in the apparel industry to ensure sustainable and best-practice cotton. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres and audit the entire process of the textile life, all the way down the supply chain to its origin, for social responsibility, environmental impact and sustainability.
Organic cotton is grown naturally and sustainably, without herbicides, pesticides or any other harmful chemicals. Only products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS certified. All accessories, dyes and other inputs must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria too.
Putting your baby in something that is premium, soft, and long-lasting shouldn’t require chemicals, environmental damage or social harm…so we put in the extra time and care to ensure every single garment we offer is GOTS certified so you don’t have to worry about it.
What's the difference between GOTS Organic Cotton and Conventional Cotton?
Farmers and their Families
The average life expectancy of a non-organic cotton farmer in India is mid-30’s owing to chemical exposure. Organic farming avoids these hazards.
The Environment
The chemicals used in conventional cotton farming contaminate the soil and drinking water potentially causing devastating consequences, such as birth defects, in the surrounding communities.
Quality & Softness
Organic cotton has longer, softer and less brittle fibres resulting in a luxuriously durable fabric which produces garments with the highest levels of comfort and wearability.
No GMO Seeds
Only natural, untreated, GMO - free seeds are used in organic farming, which eliminates the need for herbicides and pesticides in the production of healthy plants.
Dyeing
Only low-impact fibre-reactive or natural dyes with low metal and sulphur content are used, no heavy metals.
Price
Although choosing organic cotton is a bit more expensive initially, the long lasting impact on the environment is priceless. And owing to the products' longevity, the need for fewer product purchases will balance costs over time.
Any other advantages to GOTS Organic Cotton?
Absolutely, the list is endless! But here are a few more reasons why we love it;
Kind and gentle on their delicate new skin
Baby’s skin is very sensitive and absorbent in the developmental stage. Their skin being more porous than adults, it absorbs more of everything it comes in contact with including the harsh chemicals from clothes. Organic cotton protects and nurtures baby's tender skin.
Incredibly soft, itch free and breathable
Cotton is a natural fibre with soft, natural and breathable qualities. Organically grown cotton is the closest match to the organic skin of the baby as it preserves the natural properties of the cotton fibre. It is nature’s protection to the baby’s developing skin
Hypoallergenic - Naturally antimicrobial and mould resistant
Due to the absence of toxic chemicals such as herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, cotton plants can grow naturally while keeping all the nutrients intact. Since it can retain its natural state, organic cotton is antimicrobial, mould resistant and smooth. These characteristics allow the skin to breathe and avoid skin allergies.
